What is Sleep Apnea

Most sleep apnea patients are not aware they have the disorder, in fact about 70% of sleep apnea sufferers remain undiagnosed. Sleep Apnea is a condition that occurs when you stop breathing from your nose or mouth during sleep due to airway obstruction caused by things like excess tissue and enlarged tonsils – called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This can make it difficult for people with this problem to get enough oxygen while sleeping which often results in severe daytime fatigue and restless sleep. OSA also increases the risk for high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, and depression because these conditions can be caused by chronic low levels of oxygen supply to organs such as the brain. Common symptoms include snoring loudly at night, sleepiness or fatigue during the day, and breathing pauses. Learn more about Here’s Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sleep Apnea.
